vol. 7 no. 1 & 2 (2007)

The ASEAN Journal of Chemical Engineering Volume 7, Number 1, June 2007, edition
 features nine papers presented during the Regional Symposia for Chemical Engineering for the years 2005 and 2006.

This first batch of studies-most of which are collaborations by ASEAN universities with European or international partners-includes three papers from Indonesia, three from the Philippines, two from Malaysia, and one from Vietnam.

what P. Mulyono and S. Muliati findings of the effects of surfactant concentration, column height, and drop diameter on the mass transfer coefficient for single freely rising drops;

how R. Barzin, S. R. Abd Shukor, and A. L. Ahmad were able to suggest model-based design methods as possible alternatives in addressing the known difficulties in controlling process intensification problems;

what A. Le, L. X. Hai, V. N. Sharifi, and J. Swithenbank suggest after having found that the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics not only saves money but also time and offers more understanding of combustion in packed bed reactor;

how L. L. Tun, W. A. Baraoidan, P. D. Gaspillo, and M. Suzuki explained the kinetics of COD removal at optimum conditions in the treatment of textile bleaching-and-dyeing industrial wastewater in relation to the best coagulant-flocculant combination;

what F. L. Wong and A. Abdul-Aziz recommend after having found that while glucose oxidase has been immobilized with the addition of PVA, there still was extensive enzyme leakage and a low Kmapp that needs improvement;

how M. Gozan, A. Mueller, and A. Tiehm were able to arrive at the conclusion that it is essential to maintain a low but stoichiometrically adequate supply of auxiliary substrates to support reductive dechlorination and, thus, ensure elimination of trichloroethene, monochlorobenzene, and benzene in a sequential anaerobic-aerobic system; and,

what M. G. M. Oliveros, A. B. Baiting, M. G. Lumain, and M. T. I. Cabaraban suggest in terms of further research and methodology after discovering that biodiesel can be produced on a small-scale using waste vegetable oil collected from food service establishments.
